What to do in Fernando de Noronha: 3, 4 and 5-day itineraries
By Danilo Dirê · Updated 2026 · 8 min read

Fernando de Noronha is small, but intense. In a few kilometers the island gathers some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, some of Brazil's best dive sites, trails with breathtaking views and one of the largest marine nurseries in the South Atlantic. The ideal is 3 to 5 days — below, three ready-made itineraries, day by day, that you can adapt to your pace. The earlier you organize, the more you get out of the island.
Before you start
Things that shape your itinerary
The tide and the natural pools
The tide really only affects the natural pools, which only form at low tide. For diving, high tide usually brings more marine life — that's why we always suggest the best window. But rest assured: diving at another time isn't bad; the ideal condition is just an extra detail that makes the experience even better.
Trails require booking
The Park's trails (Atalaia, Capim-Açu, among others) have limited slots and must be booked in advance, directly with the park. Tip: even without the booking in hand, you can predict the timing — trails usually happen around low tide, so just check the day's tide table.
Mandatory fees
There are two: the TPA (Environmental Preservation Fee, charged per day of stay) and the National Marine Park entrance ticket, required to access most beaches and trails. See everything at Fernando de Noronha Fees.
Free time is also part of the itinerary
Noronha isn't just tours. Save time to just sit at a beach hut and watch the sunset — that makes as much difference as any tour.
How to think about it
There's no single itinerary
We adapt the itinerary to your time and your flight schedule — but some patterns work very well, and it's from them that we build almost everything. The Ilha Tour is the most complete way to know the island: a full day covering the main spots, with a certified guide. Precisely because it is so complete, we usually suggest taking a breather the next day — a more relaxed program like the VIP Sunset Boat — and leaving the Hawaiian Canoe for another day, so you can enjoy each tour with calm. When time is short, then yes it makes sense to do the two on back-to-back days. The morning activities to try to see dolphins (natural behavior, no guarantee) are the Hawaiian Canoe, the Traditional Boat or the Water Bike; the VIP Sunset Boat is always in the late afternoon.
3-day itinerary
Short trip, the essentials
With little time, you can still do the essentials — and here there's no problem doing the Canoa right after the Ilha Tour.
Arrival — beaches of the center
Sunset at the beaches of the center: Conceição, Praia do Meio and Cachorro (which the Ilha Tour doesn't visit). If your flight lands early, you can add a VIP Sunset Boat in the afternoon.
First full day — Ilha Tour
The Ilha Tour (shared or private) introduces the whole island, about 80% of the spots, with a certified guide.
Day two — Canoa (and maybe sunset)
Hawaiian Canoe in the morning, to try to spot the dolphins. With little time, you can make the most of it and add a VIP Sunset Boat in the afternoon, the same day. The dolphin activity can also be the Traditional Boat or the Water Bike.
4-day itinerary
The ideal pace
With one more day, you can build it at the pace we most recommend: a breather between the Ilha Tour and the Canoa, so you can enjoy each tour with calm.
Arrival — beaches of the center
Sunset at the beaches of the center (Conceição, Meio and Cachorro).
First full day — Ilha Tour
Ilha Tour: the full day that introduces the island.
Day two — VIP Sunset Boat
After a full day getting to know the island, a more relaxed program fits perfectly: the VIP Sunset Boat, with the sunset seen from the sea.
Day three — Hawaiian Canoe
Hawaiian Canoe in the morning (dolphins). With the previous day off, you arrive rested — this is how we prefer to build it.
5-day itinerary
Complete, with diving and trail
Everything from the 4-day itinerary, plus a day of scuba diving — discover dive (from age 8) or certified, from the beach or from a boat. The timing is flexible: the boat dive can be morning or afternoon, and the beach dive — like snorkeling — can be at any time, with prior booking. Whenever possible we fit it into high tide, when there's usually more marine life. The only rule is not doing scuba on the return flight day (snorkeling is fine, no problem). You can even combine the dive with a VIP Sunset Boat at the end of the same day. See everything at Diving in Fernando de Noronha.
If there's spare time, fit in a trail (if you booked in advance; otherwise, you can predict the time by the low tide) and — most importantly — save real free time for the beach and the sunset.
Tip
Bundle and save
If you already know you'll do more than one tour, it's worth looking at the combos with a fixed price. The Terra e Mar Package (Ilha Tour + boat tour), for example, covers the two big first days of the itinerary in a single package — the most practical way to lock in the essentials and pay less than separately.
Not just tours
Free time and sunset
One of the best things in Noronha is picking a beach hut in the late afternoon and simply watching the sunset. The Mar de Dentro beaches are ideal for this: Cacimba do Padre, Bode, Boldró, Conceição, Praia do Meio, Praia do Cachorro and the Porto. And if you prefer it with a table and a snack, some restaurants have a view of the sunset — Mergulhão, at the Porto; Bar do Cachorro, at Praia do Cachorro; Bar do Meio, between Praia do Meio and Conceição; Bar do Duda Reis, at Conceição; and the Mirante do Boldró, at Boldró, one of the best spots to watch the sun set.
Frequently asked questions
What you need to know
How many days to stay in Fernando de Noronha?
Three days is the acceptable minimum to see the essentials. Four to five days is the ideal range — you can include a trail, diving and still repeat your favorite beach. Above seven days, the pace becomes much more relaxed.
What's the best tour for the first day?
The Ilha Tour, no doubt. It shows the whole island in one day, with a certified guide, and helps you decide the rest of your itinerary knowing where each beach is and how to access it.
Do I need to book the tours in advance?
Yes, especially in high season (December to February, July and long holidays) and for trails with limited slots. Leaving it to the last minute usually turns into frustration — the best time windows sell out first.
Does the tide disrupt the tours?
The tide itself mainly affects the natural pools, which only form at low tide. Sea conditions, on the other hand, can indeed affect boat tours: between November and March there is more swell and surge, and in that period some tours may be cancelled for safety. Those prone to seasickness should pick a more stable vessel, take motion-sickness medicine beforehand, or discuss with us which tour makes more sense. A good tip: the Hawaiian Canoe is great for those who get seasick and still want to be in the water — it lasts only about 2 hours and causes far less nausea.
Can I dive on the day of my return flight?
Scuba diving, no — after a scuba dive you need to wait 18 to 24 hours before flying, so fit it in the middle of the trip, never on the last day. Snorkeling is fine any day, including the return day — no restriction.
