Where to stay in Fernando de Noronha: neighborhood guide

The location of your accommodation changes the whole trip experience — but there's no absolute "best neighborhood": it depends on what you value. If your priority is being close to the central beaches, restaurants and shops, a few neighborhoods stand out.

If you're after luxury and privacy, it can be worth staying further out. This is the guide from someone who lives on the island to help you choose consciously.

Well located

The most central neighborhoods

If you want practicality — getting a lot done on foot and staying close to the central beaches (Conceição, Meio, Cachorro), restaurants, markets, general stores and banks — these four neighborhoods are the best located.

Vila dos Remédios

The historic heart of the island, right by the central beaches, restaurants and shops — you can do plenty on foot.

Floresta Nova

Very central and practical, close to the central beaches and everyday services.

Floresta Velha

Also central and convenient, with easy access to the central beaches, restaurants and markets.

Vila do Trinta

Close to the center and to the shops, a great base for those who want convenience without relying so much on transport.

Further out

What about the other locations?

The other areas aren't bad — often they're actually closer to a different beach. The point is you'll depend on the bus, a taxi, a buggy or a motorbike rental to reach the center. If you plan to rent a vehicle (or don't mind using transport), it stops being an issue. See how to get around the island.

It depends

"Best" depends on what you value

Remember that location is a matter of perspective. Some of Noronha's most incredible inns — like Nannai and Pousada Maravilha — are in the Sueste area, further from the center. In other words: if you're after luxury, privacy and a special view, you may actually prefer staying away from the buzz. Each spot favors a different beach or experience — the trick is to choose the location by YOUR priority (convenience and dining in the center, or peace and sophistication further out).

Tip

How to choose (and book)

  • Prioritize the center (Vila dos Remédios, Floresta Nova/Velha, Vila do Trinta) if you want walking convenience and a lively food scene nearby.
  • Consider renting a buggy/car/motorbike if you stay further out.
  • Book everything well in advance — the island controls visitor numbers and the best options sell out early.

Yes, if you're after peace and sophistication — some of the island's best inns are further from the center.
