How to get around Fernando de Noronha
By Danilo Dirê · Updated 2026 · 5 min read

You've got your flight and your inn — now, how do you get around? Noronha is small, but the points of interest are spread out, and there's no Uber or 99 on the island. Your options are taxi, bus, vehicle rental (buggy, car or motorcycle) and bicycle.
This guide, from someone who lives on the island, shows what's worth it in each case.
Options
Ways to get around
Taxi
Fast and convenient, with regulated fares on the island. It's the quickest way from the airport to your inn — in less than 7 minutes you're there.
Bus
There are two buses on the island, running every half hour — one toward Sueste and the other toward the Porto, at a very low price. It's most useful for Vila dos Remédios, the central beaches (Cachorro, Meio and Conceição), the Porto and Sueste, where stops are close by. For the other beaches, the stop is usually far and you burn energy walking. Keep an eye on the schedule so you don't miss your tour.
Buggy, car or motorcycle rental
The full-freedom option: you explore the beaches at your own pace, no schedules to follow. Great for anyone who wants to enjoy every corner without rushing. Book in advance — in high season they sell out. EmNoronha sorts out your vehicle rental.
Bicycle
Good for short stretches and for anyone who enjoys pedaling — keep in mind the island has some hills.
Arrival
From the airport to your inn
The fastest option is always the taxi — in less than 7 minutes you arrive. You can also take the bus (the stop is right in front of the airport) or use your inn's transfer. Remember: time in Noronha is precious, so it's not worth saving too much on arrival.
Worth it
Which one to choose?
If you're doing tours with included transfers and staying only a few days, taxi and bus cover your free moments well. If you want full freedom to hit the beaches whenever you want, renting a buggy or car pays off. Many people combine the two. Drive carefully and respect the traffic rules and the island's zero-tolerance drink-driving law. A useful bit of math: using 6 to 8 taxis in one day usually comes out cheaper than renting a buggy — which doesn't mean the buggy isn't worth it; it's about choosing what fits your style. And remember: some tours already include transfer.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is there Uber or 99 in Noronha?
No. Use a taxi (regulated fares), the bus, a rental vehicle or your inn's transfer.
Do I need to rent a buggy?
It's not required — it depends on your style. People who want freedom for the beaches usually rent one; if your tours include transfers, taxi and bus can be enough.
How do I get from the airport to my inn?
By taxi (under 7 minutes), by bus (stop in front of the airport) or by your inn's transfer.
