Outrigger Canoe in Fernando de Noronha: a tour of contemplation on the ocean
By Danilo Dirê · Updated 2026 · 5 min read

The outrigger canoe (Va'a) is a 2-hour paddling tour departing from Porto Santo Antônio towards Praia da Conceição. It's not about strength — it's about rhythm, timing and teamwork. A group of people, often strangers, finding a shared cadence on the open water.
The route
From the port to Praia da Conceição
The paddle departs from Porto Santo Antônio and follows the coast to Praia da Conceição, passing Biboca, Rugido do Leão, Praia do Cachorro, Praia do Meio and Morro de Fora — hugging some of the most beautiful beaches on the inner sea side of the island. There is a swimming and snorkel stop at Praia da Conceição, subject to sea conditions.

FAQ
What you need to know
Is the outrigger canoe a sport?
No. It's a contemplation tour. What matters is not physical strength, but rhythm, technique and teamwork among the paddlers.
Can we see dolphins?
It's one of the activities with the highest chance of sightings, as spinner dolphins frequent the port area in the mornings. As it's wildlife behaviour, there is never a guarantee.
Which departure is better?
The sunrise departure offers the unique light of dawn on the water. The 8:30am slot coincides with when dolphins typically arrive at the port.
Who can't do it?
Young children, people with severe physical limitations or severe obesity are not advised, as the tour involves paddling and entering the sea.
