There is no single "best time" to visit Fernando de Noronha — it depends on what you're looking for. March through July means calmer water but more frequent rain, and lower prices.
Month by month
What to expect each month
August
Sun, wind and calm sea
Great for tours and diving. August is known for strong winds across the island — keep loose items secure on boats and buggies. August 10th is the island's anniversary, with celebrations and live music.
September
One of the best months
Crystal-clear water, sunshine, no rain. Underwater visibility can reach 50 meters. There's a chance of an off-season swell lasting 3–5 days, but it's typically an isolated event unlike the extended swell season.
October
Generally the best month of the year
Sun, no rain, no waves — conditions considered the most perfect of the year, with excellent visibility for diving and snorkeling. Many of the most stunning photos of Noronha are taken in October.
November to March
Swell season — peak tourism
Swell begins in November and continues through March, peaking in January and February. Between swells there are always calm spells. Ideal for surfing. Rougher seas can cancel boat tours on strong days. New Year's Eve and early January are the liveliest period on the island.
March to July
Rain season — best prices
Waves ease and the sea becomes calm with great underwater visibility. Rain tends to be concentrated and passes quickly. In heavy rain, flights may be slightly delayed due to visibility of Morro do Pico. April, May and June are the rainiest months. Rainbows are frequent. July is a transition month.
